Tempered Glass vs PC Lenses in Dive Masks: What Buyers Should Know
Two lens materials, two very different price and usage profiles. Here is how to decide what belongs in your dive mask order.

Walk the mask wall of any dive shop and you will see two families of lenses: tempered glass and polycarbonate (PC). The material decision is not about quality alone - it decides which customer the mask is right for, and what it should cost.
Tempered glass: the scuba standard
Tempered glass resists scratching and keeps its optical clarity over years of use, which is why every mask in our dive line - from the 235 g M1000S to the stainless-steel-ring M3002 - uses tempered glass lenses. For scuba divers, freedivers and spearos who will pack the same mask for a decade, tempered glass is simply the correct answer.
PC: impact resistance and lighter weight
Polycarbonate lenses are lighter, take impacts without shattering and cost less, which makes them the right choice for kids equipment and full face snorkel masks where the lens never meets a diver's pressure mask. The trade-off is scratch resistance: PC lenses show scuffs sooner. Because PC lenses can scuff sooner, some lines treat them as a lower-cost consumable and add anti-fog coatings or scratch treatments, which keeps the replacement price point attractive.
How to decide for your market
Dive shops, rental fleets and technical customers choose tempered glass masks such as the M1000S (235 g), M2006S (180 g) or M2029S (202 g). Family-focused retail and snorkel tour operators usually choose PC lenses - full face masks and kids masks - where impact resistance, weight and price matter more than optical longevity. A mixed order covers both shopper types from one container.
Buyer tip: ask for a sample of both lens types before committing. Hold each to a light and check edge finishing - that is where cheap lenses show themselves.
Ordering both from one line
Because we produce masks, snorkels and fins in one facility, you can build the full assortment - tempered glass for the dive wall, PC for the family aisle - without juggling suppliers. Tell us your market and price bands and we will map the models to your shelf.
